Akiko's Selvage chicken!

Akiko Kunst of Massachusetts made this selvage chicken! Isn'st he cute? She is making them for her guild's quilt show boutique. The show will be on July 24-25 at Tantasqua Regional High School in Sturbridge, MA. She'd better make tons of these little chicks! They're going to be popular, don't you think? I'd buy one...or more. :)

Akiko's Whale is in Sew News

When Akiko Kunst made this fantastic selvage whale, I posted about it here, and it's been on the sidebar ever since. Now her whale is about to appear in Sew News magazine! Click here to get the free pattern! www.sewnews.com/articles/Salvaged_Selvages Keep an eye out for the April/May issue which will be out any day now. Congratulations, Akiko!

Akiko's New Whales - Very Sweet

Akiko Kunst of Massachusetts has been making more whales! Isn't this beautiful? The other one is made of fleece and it has lavender in it so it smells wonderful. She has written a magazine article about her whales too. I'll let you know when it's published. (See photos of her selvage whale and selvage hat in the sidebar at right.) Nice job, Akiko!

Akiko's Selvage Hat

Akiko Kunst of Massachusetts made this beautiful selvage hat. (If you haven't seen her selvage whale, click on the photo in the sidebar at right.) Here's what she had to say about it:
"I finished my selvage hat:) I lost my favorite hat for gardening and I couldn't find anything I like.
So I bought Amy Butler's Sky hat pattern but I couldn't decide which fabric to use.
When I was making my whale, I thought "Oh why not make the hat with selvages!"
I might get white ribbon and colorful buttons to put on my hat."
Akiko is so talented! I love how the selvavges are splayed fan-like around the brim. What an inspiration. Great job!
I hope this garden hat will be worn while sipping iced-tea, not digging holes!

Artful Whales from Selvages!

Akiko Kunst of Massachusetts made this amazing whale, an incredible piece of selvage art indeed! The black button eyes are perfect, as are the color windows (they look bubbly).
Her friend Cathy, owner of the Charlton Sewing Center in Charlton, MA has been saving selvages for Akiko and she's wondering what Akiko is doing with them. Just wait 'til she sees this! Bravo, Akiko!
I'd love to see Akiko write a book showing how to make a variety of soft sculpture selvage creations, wouldn't you?

Pretty Needlecase Available on Etsy

Akiko Kunst in Massachusetts wants to make a selvage jacket, so she decided to practice with a small project first. That makes sense, but I'd say she's ready to make the jacket! I love her soft light palette. And that lime green button with the leaves nearby is perfect. Nice job, Akiko!
