Selvage Wallet by Wanda

Wanda from Texas made this neat little selvage wallet using a free pattern by StudioKat. I like those selvages. Nice job!
Wanda enjoyed the book "Prayers for Sale" by Sandra Dallas. Me too. Another good one by the same author is "The Persian Pickle Club."

Book Recommendation: The Help

I want to heartily recommend this book to you. It is a great story, and so well told. It takes place in Jackson, Mississippi in the early 1960's. The story is told by three women. This is historic fiction about the dynamics of whites and their black maids at the beginning of the civil rights era. Funny, sad, satisfying ending, I loved it.

I'm Enjoying This Book

Marilynne Robinson's book "Gilead" is a real treat. It's written as a letter/memoir from an elderly father to his young son, to be read when the son is older. Remember the New Year's Eve post here on the Selvage Blog? We were talking about this exact idea. Oh, I wish I could write like Marilynne Robinson! She teaches at the University of Iowa Writer's Workshop and she won the Pulitzer Prize for this book. No surprise there! Just read the first page and you'll be hooked. Here's the link to amazon where it's rated 4 (of 5) stars by 344 reviewers:

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society - A Good Read

This is one of the most satisfying books I've read in a long time.

Elizabeth Gilbert, (author of "Eat, Pray, Love") has this to say about "Guernsey":
"I can't remember the last time I discovered a novel as smart and delightful as this one, a world so vivid that I kept forgetting this was a work of fiction populated with characters so utterly wonderful that I kept forgetting they weren't my actual friends and neighbors. Treat yourself to this book, please - I can't recommend it highly enough."

This book by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows is rated 4.5 (out of 5) on Amazon by over 1,000 reviewers. Here's the link to Amazon:
