Giveaway Winner!

The winner of the sea urchin pincushion (see previous post below) is Wendy Caton Reed of Maine!
Thank you to everyone who helped promote my son's new Etsy shop: GriskaHandmade.
A tree recently fell on his workshop so he's not making any new products while repairs are underway. I'm glad to say that he wasn't in his workshop when the tree hit!

Giveaway! Win a Sea Urchin Pincushion! And See My Sons

Win this colorful Sea Urchin Pincushion!

I will choose a winner at random next Sunday August 4, 2019 from the Comments below.

To enter, go to www.etsy.com/shop/griskahandmade, or just click here. Take a look at my son Brian's brand new Etsy shop. He makes amazing knives and pipes by hand. Do some "favoriting," then come back here and leave a comment (enter the drawing). He's such a good guy, I'd like his shop to get some Internet love.

Since many of us are moms, I'll share a pic of my sons when they were little. Brian's on the left, David's on the right. Cute, right? Now they're both 6'4" and have beards! Still cute tho.

P.S. I'll ship the pincushion anywhere.

I found this little shopping cart at Hobby Lobby and customized it with tiny bolts of fabric from my stash. The cart has a baby seat and the wheels work better than the carts at my grocery store. This cart is about 4" high and 5" long.

Paint-Splatter Pincushion Giveaway!

Are you in the mood for a pincushion that expresses your playful, not-worried-about-the-quilt-police quilting style? Your comment is your entry for the random drawing which will happen on Sunday. I'll ship this pincushion to the winner anywhere in the world. Tell us what your favorite breakfast food is. I like yogurt with walnuts and a fresh peach. And some tea with honey. Perfect!

Oh, and I just remembered the "Wheel of Fortune" on the menu at Leo's Restaurant in Southbury, CT. Here's a photo. That's raspberry sauce, yogurt, fruit and whipped cream on a waffle. Yum!

Vintage Pincushion Giveaway!

Win this vintage pincushion! I made it a few years ago when I was on a pincushion jag.
Random winner chosen from the Comments (below) will be announced next Monday Nov. 24th.
Tell us if you sew alone or with others.
GIVEAWAY contestants can be from anywhere on Earth.
If today is your birthday, you may enter twice.
Scroll down to enter the book giveaway too.

Here's the write-up from back when I had pincushions in my Etsy shop:

I found this little pitcher in an antique shop in Connecticut. It was made in Japan for Lefton's. There's a cherub with grapes and grapevines on the front and the back. Colorful Impressionist painting design on the fabric. Two 3" long removable pinsies have elongated pearls, and glass beads in yellow, turquoise, and clear glass (which looks like ice). Pincushion measures 4" tall x 3.5" wide, handle to spout. It feels nice in your hand because the design is very pronounced and the handle (if you looked at a cross-section) is square, not round.

Simply Strings Book and Giveaway!

Rana has created an inspiring string quilt book that covers all the basics and has some very new ideas too. One of my favorite modern style quilts is shown below, "Organic." The string vine has some bias pieces in there for easy curving, and see the little yoyo berries? So clever!
See the GIVEAWAY below.

I often "read" quilt books by just looking at the pictures, but Rana's text is fun to read. It's like chatting with a very interesting friend about string quilts.

Enter the GIVEAWAY for this book by leaving a comment below. Answer the question: How many quilt tops do you think you could make with the scraps that you have right now?

Two random winners will be announced here next week, Wednesday Nov. 20.

I'm sure Rana would appreciate it if you'd spread the word about her new book in your social media forums. This is going to be a popular book. Nice job, Rana!

Big Star Quilt and Pincushion Winner!

I made this string quilt using a big diamond ruler. The larger triangles were made with the help of some paper "patterns." Machine quilted by Linda Aquavia of New Hartford, CT.

I couldn't resist including some cherries and a sock monkey. See the black and white print above? I put it next to the darkest darks to get some high contrast at the star points to make the star pop.

The winner of the sea urchin pincushion is Liz from East Berlin, CT. (I don't already know Liz; she was random #17.) Yayy, Liz! More giveaways coming soon.

Pincushion Giveaway and UFO's

Tell me how many ufo's* you have. I don't know my exact number, but it's over 50. I prefer piecing to machine quilting, obviously. I'll get to them someday. This backlog doesn't bother me.

Want to see more pincushions?

*A "ufo" is an unfinished quilt project.
