Brookside Quiltworks Exhibits my Quilts!

Brookside Quiltworks in South Egremont, Massachusetts is exhibiting 25 of my quilts until the end of August. There are downloadable patterns available for many of the quilts. Many quilts are available for sale too. This quilt shop offers 2,800 bolts of gorgeous fabric, plus tools, books, patterns, longarm quilting services, and lessons...That must be why they call it "Quiltworks," they have the works!

L to R: Fandango, Blue Lagoon, and a Gee's Bend-style Retro Christmas quilt.

Winding Trails (center), and my sister Eileen Lovett's green Hummingbird quilt (draped on the table) which was the featured quilt for March in Curated Quilts' 2019 Calendar.

This Bourgoing Surrounded quilt made from silk dupioni, includes buttons, beads and hand embroidery.

Little Dolls quilt and Puzzle quilt. Owners Catherine and Bill Kane do a nice job arranging the exhibit. Their whole shop is a delight to visit.

Moonlight, a Strip Quilt and Pattern

"Moonlight" is my most recent quilt finish. The (Kona Ash Gray) sashing color gives a moonlight look to this quilt. And I love the piano keys. Using only two strips rather than four, and placing them asymmetrically adds a little modern whimsy. I used the same striped fabric for backing and binding. You can see the striped binding in the photo above. And here are some detail photos below. Pattern coming soon on Etsy. I'll keep you posted.

Big Selvage Pillows

Barbara Cain is the author of "Go Big Go Bold, Large Scale Modern Quilts" and her quilts have appeared in many magazines too. She thought it would take a long time to save enough selvages to make anything, but creating these two beautiful selvage pillows (24" square) hardly put a dent in her selvage stash. Barbara used muslin foundation strips. You can read more about this project on her blog: Modern Quilting by B. Nice job Barbara!

Modern Selvage Quilt from C & T

When I made the quilts for my book "Quilts from the Selvage Edge" (AQS 2008) I tried to come up with a selvage version of many classic quilt categories including: log cabin, tree of life, Amish style, silk cigar ribbon quilts, stars, optical illusions, and so on. This courthouse steps quilt from C&T takes care of the modern quilt category! It looks like a maze, or interrupted concentric squares. Very nice!
This photo was posted to Pinterest by C & T Publishing.

Box Wall Quilt with Hidden Apples

My latest finish! I made this quilt top for the purpose of practicing my free-motion quilting, and I'm surprised that I really like it. You can see the quilting better in the close-ups below.
See more photos of this quilt here.

I bought some Fons and Porter quilting gloves at JoAnn. They're supposed to be rubbery so that moving the quilt under the needle is easier. But these gloves aren't very rubbery at all, so I don't recommend them. I ordered some Machingers online from Leah Day. Her online videos of fmq designs are wonderful (and numerous!).

Red apples appear in only one block.

Improv Wall Quilt is Finished

This improv wall quilt has no repeating block. It measures 40" x 44."

I like the saw-tooth edge surrounded by border-less white (Kona Bone).
This contributes to the modern look, I think.
All my Kona solids made it into this quilt except the grays and dull colors.
This kind of quilt is so much fun to make. Maybe I'll make another. :)
Aren't we lucky to have a hobby that never gets boring?
See listing here.

New Pattern: Park Place!

Hot off the presses today! Park Place is a light and airy modern quilt that's fun to make. I see fluttering flags, curly ribbon and garden paths, depending on how I look at it.

This quilt measures 61" x 82" so it's great for XL Twin dorm beds. I like those black polka dots. :)

Please Pin, fb, blog, etc. for me. Thanks!

See the pattern.

Modern log cabin quilt by Insung Kim on Flickr
I like how she used  prints with white backgrounds. They make the blocks look light and airy.
Nice job, Kim!

"Solaris" by Christel Pietschmann was featured on Lisa O'Neill's blog: A Thread from the Edge. The quilt was on exhibit at the Pennsylvania Quilt Extravaganza. Thanks for the info, Elle!

Another quilt from the same show featured on Lisa's blog is "Jacob's Coat" by Marcia DeCamp from Palmyra, New York. I love how she made it in 4 big squares.

New Honeycomb Quilt!

The Honeycomb quilt is finished! I'm putting the finishing touches on the pattern and photos now. Stay tuned! I love how this turned out. The light background gives an airy modern look. There's a little black in there too, just for fun. Big variety of fabrics, both old and new.

Sweet Modern Quilts from England

These soft and beautiful quilts were made by Sarah in Blyth, England (an hour drive from Scotland). She offers a nice quilt collection in her Etsy shop: Issabella the Cat. She also has an interesting blog with the same name. You'll love all her quilt photos.
Hi Sarah! (We're waving to you from all over the globe!)

Yellow Quilt In the Works

This is what I'm working on this week. The center of the quilt (above) is sewn together, except for the strip on the right. You can see all the spare parts below. Some of the fabrics are directional, so I have to pay attention to which strips go vertically or horizontally. I'm thinking about quilting it by hand with Pearle cotton using a big running stitch in the white areas.
I hope you're finding some time for a little quilting fun in this busy season. Merry Christmas!

This stunning raw-edge applique quilt was made by Geta Grama in Romania. Her blog is Geta's Quilting Studio. The quilt measures 20" x 20." She made it for a challenge by Aurifil (thread) and the Sew, Mama, Sew! blog. Take a look at that quilting! Nice job, Geta!

Josie Kate's Quilt

I've been thinking of making a quilt like this (white squares with colorful improv triangles). Then today I found this on Etsy! It was made by Josie Kate in California. I even have some of the same fabrics.
Are you curious to see what she used on the back? I thought so. See below. A 60's-ish print. Perfect!
