I want to heartily recommend this book to you. It is a great story, and so well told. It takes place in Jackson, Mississippi in the early 1960's. The story is told by three women. This is historic fiction about the dynamics of whites and their black maids at the beginning of the civil rights era. Funny, sad, satisfying ending, I loved it.
Thanks Karen. Sounds like the kind of story I like. I've requested it from our library.
ReplyDeleteKaren, I just finished it and it is WONDERFUL!! I lived in Brandon, right outside of Jackson, and some of that thinking still goes on today, UGH :(
ReplyDeleteEveryone should read this book!
I also listened to this book in an audio format on my MP3 and it was great. This is an excellent read and I too, recommend it to everyone.
ReplyDeleteKaren,
ReplyDeleteI agree completely. I read it and have recommended it to many others.
I read it too, and since I grew up in the deep south in the 60s, I can affirm the authenticity of the story (although we were not affluent enough to have "help"). And yes, those attitudes do still live on in some old-timers unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteI agree...wonderful book. Very thought-provoking.
ReplyDeleteI read it and I loved it!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the recommendation - I'm always looking for a good read :)
