Japanese Selvages

Here's an example of how Japanese fabric manufacturers make their selvages more interesting. I hope other manufacturers follow their example and make their selvages prettier too. Then our current selvage quilts will look like antiques!

Years ago selvages were very plain, just the company name in a "typewriter" Pica or Elite font. Remember that? Older fabrics don't have anything written on the selvage at all.

  1. Japanese selvedge is the best.. I have mushrooms and birds and ants and apples - all too cute.

  2. I agree--manufacturers need to keep up with the clever crafting community and make cuter selvedges! A lady just gave me boxes of fabric and one piece has a snippet of a selvedge but it's stamped with the year--1970.

  5. How 'tweet'! I have lots of those 'older' fabrics. But I've been pulling them out and using them. No fabric shopping for me for a long time.

  6. These selvages are very delightful! And, if we continue to create beautiful quilts with selvages, they will be sure to get more unique!!
