Sylvia Reguero of Malaga, Spain made this creative selvage pin cushion. It looks like the ends are tied tighter in the top photo, and looser in the bottom photo. I wonder if she ties it around her wrist sometimes. Very nice job, Sylvia! Muchisimi! (Sylvia taught me that word via email; it means very very nice.)
My grandmother from Lithuania used to like to tie fabrics (scarves, packages, clothes etc). I think Sylvia and Grandma would have been on the same page. :) I used to watch her sew and cook and garden. I hope you grandmothers out there have lots of fun with your grandkids this summer. Awww. What memories.
That is most beautiful creative work of sewing. Thank you for sharing. Happy Qulting!

ReplyDeleteLove this pincushion.. So cute!
ReplyDeleteI remember the "Brazen Bluebirds" fabric! What a nice selvage project!
ReplyDeleteThere is a free pattern available at www.thepatternbasket.com for a similar pincushion. Look at the bottom of their free pattern page. The link there actually takes you to the Moda Bake Shop, where the pincushion is made from Moda ribbons, which look alot like selvages.
My grandmother was a dressmaker in New Orleans for many years. She sewed for the rich ladies and gentlemen. I have several scrap crazy quilt; one is pieces of leftover satins from the Mardi Gras ball gowns and the other is woolens from the men's suits. They were made before the 20's.
ReplyDeleteI learned sewing from my mother and I hated it. Somehow I ended up in quilting, which I like way better.
