Did you know that there is a big collection of
Girl Scout fabric available? I found it on the
Alderwood Quilts site. I would have loved this back when I was a Girl Scout! Look at all those badges. I'm told they don't have a quilting badge. Can that be true? I was a Cub Scout leader for 8 years, but we have no daughters. The little guys were lots of fun, even though they didn't want to quilt, knit, crochet, embroider...haha.
Must be a general badge for sewing......I never wanted to earn badges I just wanted to camp :0) and eat the cookies.
ReplyDeleteHappy Sewing
Our local Hancock Fabrics has this Girl Scout fabric in many different prints for 1.00 per yard...YES...I said...1.00 per yard.
ReplyDeleteI love the pink and lime fabrics that say courageous and strong. Wouldn't they make great pillowcases?
ReplyDeleteBack in the early 80s, I led my daughter's girl scout troop in a sewing badge that was available. It was for clothing & they made a wrap around skirt & a vest. I did have them do a patchwork pocket on them using my scraps. They then had to model them in a fashion show for their moms.
ReplyDeleteI sometimes wonder if any of those girls sew today-my daughter sure doesn't!
Spent lots of happy years in Girl Scouts. And have lots of badges to show for it, so this fabric is fun to see. There was a badge for sewing. Am proud to say I earned mine in about 5th grade. Of course that was 40 years ago!
ReplyDeleteIt's sad, but true. No quilting badge. I have an Ambassador troop (juniors and seniors in high school) so they are quilting as part of the Textile badge. We've led several workshops for younger girls to earn sewing badges.
ReplyDeleteGirl Scouts of the USA is kicking off their centennial year! We're gearing up locally to plan some special events. Once a Girl Scout, Always a Girl Scout!
There are several great Boy Scout lines from the last couple of years including one or two that feature some of the wonderful Normal Rockwell paintings of Boy Scouts. As the wife of one and mother of two Eagle Scouts I have a large stash of Boy Scout fabric that I want to make into several quilts "some day". They have not worked their way to the top of the "to do" pile yet.
ReplyDeleteToo bad the Girl Scouts don't have a quilting badge. It would be fun to teach a group of girls to quilt.
Yes, I knew there was Girl Scout fabric...including one with Thin Mints! As a former GS, I have bought a couple of fat quarters. I have thoughts of making a mini quilt for my former Scout Leader.
