Originally I was only going to put quilts in my Etsy store, but yesterday I added some silk scarves and some little dollhouse quilt cabinets/desk ornaments. I think it looks festive, but my husband thinks it is a distraction from the quilts (that shoppers won't scroll down to see the quilts). Any thoughts?
Hi Karen,
ReplyDeleteI think they make a good addition to your store. You could perhaps rearrange the shop so that the quilts come first, and 'showcase' some of the other items in the featured items at the top of the shop, so interested customers know they are there as well.
Etsy is fun, isn't it!
Best wishes from Brisbane,
Linda
Hi Karen,
ReplyDeleteI love the way your shop looks. You have your sections and I agree with Linda, rearrange your shop periodically to move your quilts to the top and change your featured items. Your scarves are gorgeous and I love the little cabinets!
Both of these items are wonderful, love the scarves.
ReplyDeleteI think they are okay in your shop, but if you will be adding a lot more, maybe open a second shop for everything other than your quilts. You have such a distinctive style, and your quilts make a unified statement when someone opens your 1st shop page.
I absolutely love your scarves! I think variety is a good thing.
ReplyDeleteI think any shop selling handmade things should have a variety of prices. Your quilts may not be within the budgets of some of your admirers, the scarves are a way they can own your work. I am not so sure about the miniature furniture.
ReplyDeleteThe more the merrier! If people don't have need or funds for a quilt, they could still buy something from your beautiful collection.
ReplyDeleteHi Karen--I think variety is good. I just glanced at your store front and nothing jumped out as "I don't belong here!" :-) Plus, you are well known enough that you could pretty much do whatever you want in there and people are still gonna come look (and hopefully; buy!)
ReplyDeleteHappy Holidays,

I put a scarf on my wish list! And the dollhouse quilt cabinets are super cute. I was lucky to win one from you!
ReplyDeleteWith all do respect clearly hubs has never shopped on Etsy! When I find one item I like from a seller I always check their entire shop because chances are they will have something else I want. I'm going to check out your ornaments now .....
ReplyDeleteYour shop is lovely, and thanks for sharing with us as it develops. Use your shop sections and featured items wisely and it won't be a problem. All of your items are related, so I do think they fit in one shop, and as someone said earlier, they offer different price points. You can have 10 sections, so use as many as you need. I would separate the cabinets from the scarves into different shop sections, and title them with what they are. As a shopper, I might pass over "textile treats" plus it is better for SEO if your section titles reflect what you want people to find. I would also suggest you diversify your featured items to include one item from each type of product you sell (one cabinet, one scarf, one or two quilts). And as others said, rearrange regularly. Also don't forget to have some featured items waiting in the wings, so that when some featured items sell, the next will automatically take its place (you may be doing this already). A shop looks unattended if there are fewer than 4 featured items.
ReplyDeleteWhen I went to look, I didn't get held up on the doll quilt thingies. I looked right on through to all the quilts and saw some really nice ones. My problem would be trying to choose one... there are so many nice ones. (I always look at all of something I'm interested in, before I decide. You never know what wonderfulness may be on the last page.) What do men know abut shopping?
ReplyDeleteHugs!
Oh you are all so smart! Thanks for the excellent advice.
ReplyDeleteI think it's a great idea. You are a well known quilt artist, and there are those that wish to own some of your work, but perhaps cannot afford one of your larger quilts and don't want a doll quilt. This gives them another option. You may want to put just a few of the smaller items on your site at a time though so as not to distract from quilts as your main focus. You can add additional ones as they sell, and note in your policies that customers can convo you to see if more are available if they need a large order.
