Ellen Holen made the quilt shown above during the Depression using her son's neckties.
The quilt top shown below was made by the members of "13th Street Studio" using silk scraps from a necktie factory. They made the top in one afternoon, then donated the finished quilt to a charity fundraiser. So beautiful.
All beautiful. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteVery cool quilts. I have some unused scraps of tie material from a tie factory that someday will be a bag, or a quilt. This is inspiring to me.
ReplyDeleteI saved a few of my dad's ties, but my brothers and nephews took the good ones. I've been thinking about making Dresden pillows.
ReplyDeleteHere's the necktie quilt I finished this year: http://pamelaquilts.blogspot.com/2011/09/taming-beast.html
ReplyDeleteI don't know if I'd do a whole quilt again, but pillows would be a good project!
Received over fifty ties from a friend and want to make a little quilt for him. Love the way those tops look.
