And here they are after the removal of the bandages. I'll make new pinsies for these cushions, although the blue one looks like a keeper. I would never have given these shoes a second look at the flea market if I wasn't keeping a keen eye out for pincushion containers but I like them. The man I bought them from said he has a thousand more at home. Uh, okay. Can you imagine? Do you think he was trying to get a date? Haha!
Thank you to Jean and Sandy for the info that these were made by
Fenton Glass in Williamstown, West Virginia. Fenton is no longer in business.
Fenton was made in Williamstown, West Virginia. The plant is now closed so production is never more. Very sad.
ReplyDeleteI have a red one since I collect red glass.
ReplyDeleteNever thought to use it as a pincushion, good idea.

These shoes are gorgeous. I love the blue one, It has a 'cinderella' type look to it. Well done.

My mother has a couple of these in red too. No, I don't think he was after a date. I think he was hoping to sell you his entire supply. Don't you want to make a thousand of these pincushions?
ReplyDeleteToo funny! Love them.
ReplyDeleteVery clever of you. I really like them. If you ever see a purple one -- nab it for me! :) I think you may have started something. It brings back memories of some unusual pin cushion items I've seen in grandmother's sewing area.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty indeed.
It's so funny - I haven't thought of them in years, but my granny had a bunch of those shoes in a basket full of stuff she used to let me play with! There were some cute little chicken trinket boxes, and eye washers (like little goblets) that might make cute pincushions!

ReplyDeleteThe colors are so pretty! Were his "thousand more at home" these same colors?
ReplyDeleteFenton is still in business. Here's the website:

I know Fenton Factory is closed because I live less than 12 miles from Williamstown, WV. Fenton Glass Factory "is" closed as of July 2011. Only the gift shop is open. But once all the stock is sold that will be it. Hang on to your Fenton because someday it will really be worth something.
