See the beautiful "Bloomin' Nine-Patch" quilt photos on the
Quilt Inspiration blog. They're based the book above,
Radiant Sunshine and Shadow by Helen Frost and Catherine Skow. Isn't this quilt stunning? I love how it glows. And it's just 9-patch and one-patch blocks! Granted, there are
a lot of them. The quilts done with printed fabrics have a very different look. Oh I'm liking this.
I love how the quilts all look so different depending on fabric used. Great inspiration.
ReplyDeleteThey are so much fun to make! And they can be addictive. I have made 3 of them in prints, but a friend of mine has made at least 20! They are gorgeous in batiks. They actually go together very quickly with all that strip piecing. You get into a groove and sew, sew, sew!
ReplyDeleteYou frightened me when I saw the Selvage Blog with a blooming nine patch topic. All I could think was "don't tell me she made a blooming nine patch with selvages?" I have made this quilt and it is definitely not selvage friendly. Thank you for sharing the variations. So many different effects.
ReplyDeleteI saw one of these in Batiks and wow. I have wanted this book for a long time but have never gotten around to buying it. I guess I should.
ReplyDeleteTalk about gorgeous! I have had my eye on that book and now I have to buy it! Thank you! The nine patch is my all time favorite block.
ReplyDeleteKaren, thank you! We had a fun time writing about those gorgeous blooming nine patch quilts. And, we love your blog with all the fascinating and creative ideas that you present. It's wonderful!
ReplyDeleteBest wishes, from Marina and Daryl at Quilt Inspiration
That quilt is absolutely gorgeous. I will have to buy that book. Looks like a lot of concentration but I think I have one or two "boring" fabrics that I could liven up and be perfect like this. I love your blog Karen. Hugs from Myra and me and thank you for the lovely email.
ReplyDeleteI love my Blanche Young Book "traditions with a twist" that has the "bloomin 9 patch" pattern in it. This looks fabulous! I, too have made several of them. They make great gifts.... Thanks for the heads up - I'm off to get this book now!
