Embroidered American Red Cross Quilt



This American Red Cross quilt was the only Redwork quilt in the exhibit. Some of the blocks feature names of songs, cities in New York state, names of notable New Yorkers (Washington Irving), and popular mid-20th century images of children, animals, and flowers. This quilt was tied with red embroidery thread. It was displayed spread out on a low table.

Yup, more red and whites tomorrow.

    Thank you so much for showing all these pictures. I can't tell you how much I wanted to go to this exhibition. I'm in the uk so there were too many hurdles to jump to get there :)

    I've been doing a redwork swap for several months and eventually to make a redwork quilt, I just hope it's half as good as this one.

    Keep them coming, love seeing them, I was unable to attend, oh how I wish I could have been there...if only I'd known sooner I could have arranged it. Stunning, spectacular, absolutely love these quilts.

    And I don't remember seeing this one!! There was just so much to take in! I'm really looking forward to the book, but nothing will compare to the experience of all those quilts in that wonderful space!

    l can remember seeing about 4 different red work quilts. There was an amazing one with labels from Flour bags. l admit to not getting a close look at the Red cross quilt. Thanks for the photos of this one.
