This vintage "Turkey Red Flower Power Quilt" was part of the recent Flights and Fantasies Quilt Show. It was made in Pennsylvania around 1860, hand appliqued and quilted, measuring 73" x 73." These big chunky flowers look more like 1960 than 1860; this quilter was way ahead of her time. The little orange dot in the center of each flower is a nice touch.
Wow! This is gorgeous. Thanks!

ReplyDeleteOh my and the quilting! Is that hand stitched?

You're right....she was WAY ahead of her time! I love this!
ReplyDeleteAlways LOVED this quilt! So funky for the time it was made.:)
ReplyDeleteThat was one of my favorites! It struck me how many of the antiques fit the "modern" aesthetic. I can't wait to see the new exhibit at the New England Quilt Museum.
ReplyDeleteI love this quilt and am about 3/4 of the way through a modern version, same colors and complete with the little circles. It will take me a while to hand quilt it though in those big sweeping arcs. What an amazing quilt for the 1860s. Thanks for sharing it.
