Houndstooth Quilt and Pattern!

The binding is done, photos taken, and the pattern is hot off the presses! No, I didn't start this quilt after I finished the Honeycomb quilt! Haha! (But it does go fast.) They were done simultaneously.

This quilt is 61" x 82." It goes together so fast, you will love this method!!

Honeycomb Quilt and Pattern are Finished!

The Honeycomb quilt is finished! And the pattern is too! I love how this quilt came out; it has a light and airy, modern look. The border is subdued so as not to distract from the honeycombs. If you're a Pinner, I'd appreciate a Pin. Thanks.

New Honeycomb Quilt!

The Honeycomb quilt is finished! I'm putting the finishing touches on the pattern and photos now. Stay tuned! I love how this turned out. The light background gives an airy modern look. There's a little black in there too, just for fun. Big variety of fabrics, both old and new. 

Are You in Boston Today?

Visit the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston to see the Pilgrim Roy quilt collection. I visited yesterday and the exhibit was wonderful. Today is the last day. Also, if you go to the museum Cafe, I recommend the Honey Cake. It has blueberries, lime sauce, and whipped cream. Yum!

The entire exhibit is pictured in the book: Quilts and Color. The photos are very good. 

This familiar quilt was part of the exhibit. It's a pineapple/windmill blades log cabin. The rooms had low lighting and the spotlights made the quilts glow. So beautiful!

After the Wedding - A Raw-Edge Broderie Perse Quilt!

"After the Wedding" by Debby Schnable, made with raw-edge applique, and embellished with lace, broderie perse, and embroidery. Amazing!

Debbie tells about this quilt on her blog: Debby Quilts. She says they're fun to make (she's made several), and they hold up well with washing too! She calls this "After the Wedding" because it's kind of messy. Ha!

Next, take a look at another double wedding quilt by Debby, "Jewel Tone." This one was featured on the Quilt Inspiration blog. I love the broderie perse in these quilts!

Green Odd Ball Quilt

This quilt called "Odd Ball" is in the book: Geared for Guys by Emily Herrick. It was featured on the FreshLemons blog. I think the guys in my family would definitely like this one. Great photo location too!

Joanell's Quilt

Take a look at this happy quilt by fiber artist Joanell. I love how the bold fabrics add so much excitement to this quilt. The best fabric is the green with red/pink veins. And the black and white stripes, of course. Nice!

Clever Asterisk Block Variation

Here's a very clever variation of the Asterisk block: add 4 little white triangles, one on each corner. A snowball style block. I like the use of white too. This was done by MarciGirlDesigns. Nice job!

Remember the Red Zinger Selvage Quilt?

Remember the Red Zinger selvage quilt? Many of them are shown on the Red Zinger Pinterest board. If you have made one and it's not included there, please email me at karengriska@optonline.net and I'll add it.

If you are new to the Selvage Blog, take a look at the Pinterest board (link above) and the pattern. This goes together fast. Cut some selvages wide so you can use fussy-cut images like the sock monkey below. (Otherwise, average width is about 1 1/2.")

June Calender's New Quilt

June Calender just finished this patriotic center medallion quilt. She says she was inspired by my Adirondack quilt. June enjoyed making this quilt and may make another one for her just-out-of -law-school grandson for Christmas. Lucky guy! 

This is June's fan quilt in progress. She says making fans is easy. I agree. See easy fan pattern here. 

June's blog is appropriately called Calender Pages. 

P.S. She lives on lovely Cape Cod! I imagine her front yard looks like this, but I can't say for sure. :)

Big Fancy Selvage Quilt!

This big selvage quilt was featured on the KnitOneQuiltToo blog. This blogger was showing some quilts from her recent guild quilt show. She didn't name the maker of this quilt. If you know who made it, please let me know. Note the prairie points around the edge. Nice!

Jacqui's Selvage Tumbling Blocks Quilt

I love the optical illusion in this quilt. You can imagine looking into the boxes from the top, or from the right.

Purple Door

A door to match the bougainvillea nearby. Brilliant! This is in Greece. It came from a blog that has been removed, but the image is still floating around in cyberspace. Take a look at Rahna's Pin board for more.

This aerial view of a beach would make a nice fabric design! It's from Zsa Zsa Bellagio. 

Treasury of Quilt Patterns

This looks like a quilt of quilts! I used Treasury Box to make this. It's free and very user friendly. A good tool if you make lots of Etsy treasuries. To see all the patterns, go here. 

How to Make a String Quilt Block

This is a post for newbie quilters. Here's how to make a string quilt block. Use your 6" square ruler. Don't have a 6"? That's okay, use another size. Or another shape. 

You might want to make the center strip (above) using the same fabric in all the blocks so that you get a lattice effect. Make some blocks and play with them on your design wall. 

I like the yellow flower in the upper corner of this block. All the strips don't have to be the same width. The  strips are 1 1/4"- 1 1/2" wide.  But cut them whatever widths you like. This is a very casual method.

You might use sashing between the blocks. Maybe add an outer border. So many possibilities!

Fabric Stash Humor

We already know that quilters have sizable fabric stashes, and that we always need a little more.  So what's to discuss? I knew of a quilter who hired an additional truck just for fabric when she moved her household. Now that's impressive! 

New Pattern! Quick Trip Around the World

This twin size quilt has 1,280 little squares in it! But with the Quick Trip quilt pattern you use the tube method to avoid lots of work. If you have 2 1/2" x 41" strips, jelly rolls, or fat quarters, you're ready to get started. I really like this combination of solid red and low volume prints.
