Surprise from Dianne Springer!

You've probably heard of "Quilt in a Cup." (You make a mini quilt and insert it into an insulated cup for a quick fun project - and perfect for selvages.) Now Dianne Springer also has "Quilt in a Clock," "Quilt in a Mousepad," "Quilt in a Clipboard," "Hooked on a Quilt," "Quilt on a Chair," and a rug pattern too! You can see all this cool stuff at: http://www.quiltinacup.com/.

While Dianne is busy coming up with all these ideas for adding quilt charm to useful objects, she saves her selvages for me! Am I lucky or what? The photo above is just the top of a big pile of selvages that arrived today! Gotta go sew. Bye for now.

One more thing: you could use selvages for any of her projects. See my "Selvage Quilt in a Cup" here: http://selvageblog.blogspot.com/search/label/Quilt%20in%20a%20Cup Send photos of what you make to the Selvage Blog. We want to see!

Have you seen the "Quilt in a Cup?"

Here is a selvage version of the new "Quilt in a Cup" idea from Diane Springer! You can get these cups at http://www.quiltinacup.com/. This large cup comes with instructions for adding your own quilt block, and it's really easy. For this cup, I sewed selvages onto the batting that came with the cup. Then just use a little glue around the snug top, and you're good to go.

This is a great idea for a workshop to do with your quilting buddies because it's so quick and easy, you'll all go home with a finished product! Have fun and send photos!

"Balinese" Selvage Quilt by Diane Springer!

Look at this stunning selvage quilt by Diane Springer of http://www.quiltinacup.com/ fame! She went to Bali in the spring and bought so much beautiful hand-woven, hand-dyed fabric that she had to buy a new suitcase! (We dedicated quilters just do what we have to do!)

These selvages don't have any writing on them; the pattern continues right up to the edge. I love these gorgeous deep colors. I wonder what the Balinese fabric makers would think to see what she made. What a great souvenir of her trip to Bali!

Diane Springer Sent All These Selvages!

Posted by PicasaIf you have been reading your quilt magazines, including the ads in the back, you will recognize the name "Quilt in a Cup." Now there is also "Quilt in a Clock," and "Quilt in a Mousepad." (The name of the website is still: http://www.quiltinacup.com/)

Diane Springer and I became friends via Internet, and she harvested all these selvages from her stash and sent them to me! (You know how long it takes to cut all that!) My selvage stash was getting kind of "picked over," so these selvages really livened things up. They are so pretty!
