New City Lights Quilt Pattern!

Here's my newest quilt pattern, hot of the presses! City Lights is a soft raw-edge applique quilt that's great for beginners who want modern style. Directions for wall size and twin size are included. 

After the first time you machine wash and dry it, you'll have to pick off lots of threads. But not so much after that. See the pattern.

After the Wedding - A Raw-Edge Broderie Perse Quilt!

"After the Wedding" by Debby Schnable, made with raw-edge applique, and embellished with lace, broderie perse, and embroidery. Amazing!

Debbie tells about this quilt on her blog: Debby Quilts. She says they're fun to make (she's made several), and they hold up well with washing too! She calls this "After the Wedding" because it's kind of messy. Ha!

Next, take a look at another double wedding quilt by Debby, "Jewel Tone." This one was featured on the Quilt Inspiration blog. I love the broderie perse in these quilts!

Colorful Raw-Edge Pillow

This pillow was featured on Susan's blog: Blackberry Creek Home Arts. The maker's name wasn't given; all we know is that it was made by Doris' friend. The pillow is covered with a black fabric that has multi-colored dots on it. The embellishments are made from 5 concentric raw-edge circles, with a button in the middle of each one. A few of the buttons are star-shaped. It looks like the circles are only attached to the pillow with the button. I don't see any quilting. Pretty dazzling! 

I think it could use some beads too. Tons of beads actually. :)

UPDATE: Doris' friend is Tammy. She and her mom cut all the circles by hand! Nice job, ladies!

Modern Raw-Edge Quilt Tied With Wool

This is my latest project, a raw-edge quilt using 5" Moda Charm Packs. It's tied with wool. The edges didn't fray as much as I'd expected, and I just realized that's because the squares were cut with a tiny pinking shears zigzag. Normally you don't want the edge to fray, but in this case I did! Haha. 

I like how the little balls are nice and round. The pattern is almost finished. Most of you don't need a pattern for this, but I think it would help new quilters.

Gail Griffin's New Raw-Edge Tile Quilt!

This is Gail Griffin's stunning new raw-edge tile quilt. I like how the circles and ovals keep your eye moving. Take a look at those flowers in the corners too. So artistic. Here's what she said about it:

I finished my raw edge tile quilt top and have attached a photo. It was a lot of fun to make and I enjoyed the process. It made me feel like an artist! There is an orange block, several Christmas blocks, a couple of red, white and blue blocks, and a block that shows all the states I've lived in. Great pattern - thank you!

Food Themed Tile Quilt - BOM

This is Empire Quilters' BOM for October, a food-themed raw-edge applique tile quilt block. These are so much fun to make. Perfect for novelty fabric collectors. With so many quilters contributing blocks, there will be a huge variety of food fabrics. I'll show you all the blocks after the meeting on Oct. 13.

Ticker Tape Quilt Made by Second Graders

This quilt was made by a second grade class as part of their color wheel lesson. Their teacher is "I am Just One Mom" and you can see more photos of this project in progress on her blog: Fabric Fulfilling Its Destiny. An ineresting note, she washed the pieced blocks after the backing was added, but before the backing was added. I thought that the batting would fluff all over the place. I'm learning something new.

Penny's New Tile Quilt

Penny from the Sew Take A Hike blog just finished this tile quilt. It's machine appliqued and hand quilted (which she says almost threw her over the edge). See how she quilted around some of the polka dots in the border? And I like the red polka dots in the tile section too. The nice big spaces between her "tiles" gives a light, airy feel to this quilt. Very modern. Great job!

"Stamp Collection" Tile Quilt (Empire October BOM)

One of my "jobs" is to design the Block of the Month blocks for my guild, Empire Quilters in NYC. This raw-edge machine applique block is our block for October. I made this tile quilt as an experiment to see what would happen when it was machine washed and dryed. I know it's pretty big for an experiment, but I was having so much fun.

I should have used a zigzag stitch to applique the patches, or sewed a little further away from the edge (more than 1/8"). A few of the "tile" edges came loose in the wash and needed repair. The quilt also needed a trim to remove lots of frayed edge threads. But that's okay. It has a soft, shabby chic look now, and I like it. I think it looks fabulous from a distance! Haha.
