Square One - A Good Place to Start

"Square One" is a quick and easy quilt. It's tied with little fuzz balls that add vintage charm. The light prints lend some fresh modern goodness too. 

And of course I've sprinkled some of my favorite novelty prints here and there (eyeglasses, crossword puzzles, bees, calligraphy, etc.) This quilt is definitely fun to make. 

It measures 60" x 78" and took 2 days, start to finish.

Easy Quilt Pattern, Raw-Edge Tied

This soft quilt is great for beginners and people who need a quilt finished yesterday!

I made this quilt in one day, but writing the pattern took longer. That's okay, I love making the patterns.

My Mom and Dad bought this rocking horse 29 years ago when our first son (their first grand-baby) was born. Eventually Brian, David and 4 cousins rode this little guy. 

I love the texture provided by these little wool ties.

Modern Raw-Edge Quilt Tied With Wool

This is my latest project, a raw-edge quilt using 5" Moda Charm Packs. It's tied with wool. The edges didn't fray as much as I'd expected, and I just realized that's because the squares were cut with a tiny pinking shears zigzag. Normally you don't want the edge to fray, but in this case I did! Haha. 

I like how the little balls are nice and round. The pattern is almost finished. Most of you don't need a pattern for this, but I think it would help new quilters.

Nantucket Quilt Pattern!

This classic nautical quilt sparkles with summer colors. The backing and binding are solid ecru, like sails. The ecru ties look like seagulls in the air, and upon close inspection the little knots resemble boat rigging.

Star Bright is Done!

The quilt and the pattern are finished! I decided to go with Version #2 (scroll down to see post) because I really like the illusion of an empty box in the middle of this star. Thanks for all your input!

This is the first time I've tied a quilt. It was fun. I used DMC Pearle cotton #5.

Tied Star Quilt at the American Folk Art Museum

Take a close look at the top photo. This is a whole cloth quilt, tied with pink and yellow yarn. There are star designs done in pink, and the background is done in yellow. The ties are approximately 1" apart. I've never seen a quilt where the main design element was made with tied yarn! The yarn is fuzzy from being washed. The maker is unknown. Dated 1900-1940. United States.
