Taxi Quilt Pattern!

Here it is! My newest quilt pattern: TAXI. Thank you all so much for helping me decide which name and photo to use. I included a picture of a New York City taxi in the pattern for those who are unfamiliar with them. Thanks for all your input. It really helps to hear from you.

I've been busy making quilt patterns lately. I love doing that. The next pattern is almost done. It's a Trip Around the World variation using the tube method. It pairs low volume prints with solid red. The working title is "Tube Trip." 

After that pattern is finished, I want to make some more challenging ones. Scrappy optical illusions with spider webs and fans and tumbling blocks. Can't wait!

Big Star Quilt and Pincushion Winner!

I made this string quilt using a big diamond ruler. The larger triangles were made with the help of some paper "patterns." Machine quilted by Linda Aquavia of New Hartford, CT.

 

I couldn't resist including some cherries and a sock monkey. See the black and white print above? I put it next to the darkest darks to get some high contrast at the star points to make the star pop.

New Christmas Sea Urchin Pincushion

I know I'm showing you a lot of these Sea Urchin Pincushions, but I just finished this one and I'm so excited about it I had to show you. The fabric is "Dimples" by Gail Kessler (Ladyfingers Studio, Andover Fabrics) in olive/lime green. The beads are mostly greens, reds, and whites, but there are some other colors sprinkled here and there to make it interesting. 

Like a Christmas tree, or a scrap quilt.

Another Finish: Diamond Dish Quilt

You've seen the pattern for Diamond Dish. Now the quilt is finally finished, as a result of my "getting serious" about completing quilt tops. 

 If you are a new quilter, you might be interested to see what a "hanging sleeve" is. (Above) It goes on to the top edge of the quilt before the binding is added. The sleeve puffs out a little so that the quilt hangs nice and flat when the curtain rod (or dowel) is in there. Otherwise you'd see a bulge. I always show a photo like this so Etsy viewers can see how easy it is to hang a quilt on the wall.

New Etsy Store: KarenGriskaQuilts

My new Etsy store is open! And this green and brown Midwest Amish style wall quilt is one of the 44 quilts listed for sale so far. It was inspired by (but not a copy of) a quilt in the book "Amish Crib Quilts from the Midwest, The Sara Miller Collection" by Smucker, Crews, and Welters, page 16. Improvisational Amish quilts are some of my all time favorites.

I know you're all quilters, so you're not in the market for quilts. If you see a quilt you like and you want to make one just like it, help yourself to the idea. Don't think about a "pattern," just do it by eye.

Many of you encouraged me to give Etsy a try and I'm so glad I did. The site is easy to use, and it's such a dynamic place!
