Riel's Green Selvage Quilt

This green recycle symbol selvage quilt is the creation of Riel Nason of Canada. Her blog is The Q and the U. Browse her blog for more amazing selvage quilts. Riel is also the author of The Town that Drowned, available on Amazon. It's a very good story. And it's not scary, despite the title. I highly recommend it. Good for young readers too.

Wedding Quilt Update

Here it is, so far. I hope to finish the top today. I think it needs more light blocks. The overall look isn't as light as I was expecting. Maybe it's that cheddar fabric that's bothering me. I like the dark rose print (you can see it near the top of the photo below). It adds a little sparkle.

Happily Ever After

Today I'm piecing a quilt for my nephew's wedding (May 25). It's just a simple 16-patch quilt, but the soft colors and floral patterns make it work. In some places the checkered effect blends block to block. In other places it doesn't blend. I think that makes the overall quilt top more interesting. It's less predictable. Back to the sewing machine! (Each little square is 2" finished.) 

Selvage Spider Web Quilt

This quilt was made by Karin of Cascade Quilts in NW Washington. It measures 80" x 80." Wow, that's a lot of selvages! Nice job, Karin!

Junk Mail Selvage Quilt

 

I made "Junk Mail" in 2011 using some of my favorite selvages and novelty fabrics. 

I like how black and white prints go with selvages. The outer border has a serrated postage stamp look, consistent with the junk mail theme.

Adirondack Quilt

Here's the latest in my series of "camp" quilts. That is, quilts that would look at home on the set of the movie "On Golden Pond." It was long arm quilted by Linda Aquavia of New Hartford, CT. Now it just needs a binding and a label. 

My next camp quilt has lots of zigging and zagging. Stay tuned. Happy quilting!

"Chimney Sweep NY" was made by Mary Cannizzaro of South Salem, NY. She used Ricki Tims hand dyed fabrics for this quilt.

"Sun or Sand? Which Way Up?" by Karen Carlson of Briarcliff, NY won the Judge's Choice award.

"Fireworks" (below) by Claire Hibbard of Katonah, NY, and quilted by Angela Vertucci is a gorgeous blend of Westminster fabrics. This quilt was made for Claire's daughter. Lucky girl!

"Cookies and Cream" was made by Patricia Loquet of Ossining, NY, and quilted by Janice Jamison.

Wedding Annniversary!

Jason and I were married 36 years ago today (1978) in Southbury, CT.

Brian and David were born in 1983 and 1987.

Here we are in 2005: (left to right) David, Karen, Jason, and Brian.

Brian will be married in May 2015.

I don't know how we'll celebrate. Maybe we'll have some champagne and look at our old family photos. Or go to the place nearby where there are millions of daffodils in bloom.

Quilts by Cherri House at Somers Quilt Show

Some of the quilts from Cherri House's new book Urban Views were on exhibit at the Northern Star Quilters' Guild quilt show. "City Beat" is shown above.

"City Lake" is shown below. I like that dense wavy quilting.

Cherri made "Jemma" (below) to showcase a collection of fabrics by Lonni Rossi. She used the bow tie block to great effect!

The herringbone pattern in "City Tracks" (below) gets depth and sparkle from all the different shades of red, orange, purple and gold.

"City Sky" (below) is a soothing blend of sky colors.

"City News" is all about creating transparency using solid colors. The bow tie block is more evident in this quilt than in "Jemma."

Great Quilt Show in Somers, New York!

On Saturday I went to the Northern Star Quilters' Guild show in Somers, NY. They had a wide variety  of beautiful quilts. The vendors had lots of new merchandise. Some of it came home with me, of course. Mark Lipinski was in fine form and delighted a big audience with funny stories and great quilts. 

All three quilts in this post were made by Barbara E. Glab of Vero Beach, Florida. "Home Sweet Home" was quilted by Leona Herschberger. 

"Blue Heaven" is another traditional beauty by Barbara and quilted by Leona.

"Luxury Plus" was quilted by Mary Raber. 

I'll show you more quilts from the show tomorrow.

Selvage Table Runner

Pretty selvage table runner by Melinda of Melinda Quilts Etc. 

I especially like that white polka dot in the middle. A runner is a good first selvage project, but new selvage quilters probably won't be able to stop there. Right?
