Do you have any Japanese selvages?

Are there any fascinating selvages hiding in your stash? Seeing selvages like this one make me pay more attention to those printed edges. This one is from selvage quilter Elena McDowell. I'm sure she'll find a strategic place to feature this one!

If you know what this says, please post a Comment below. Thanks.

ohhhh that's a keeper! It deserves a special place of honor on some project. Sorry, I have no idea what it says though. I LOVE selvedges, always have. Since I was little I was fascinated by the little color dots and it is so cool to find other selvedge lovers too. :D

Oh Dear, I think I have found a new love. I am a crazy quilter and landscape quilts. Now I must try selvages. What neat idea. Love your blog.

I made my first selvedge block last weekend and after blogging about it I was told about this blog. WOW....this is great inspiration, and I have now ordered the book. It is so fun to read all the cute, fun, romantic aso names on the selvedge.

I have no idea what that says, but I have some Japanese selvages that have hearts & other images instead of dots for the colors...

Hi Karen, This is three YEARS later than when you asked the question but I em'ed my friend in Japan and she answered me just now! Here is what she says:

Hi Alia,

That writing says .....
reading is ハイカラ = ha-i-ka-ra & 倶楽部 = ku-ra-bu
and the meaning is 'modern (or stylish) club' !!

The word ha-i-ka-ra is not used so often in the daily conversation now.

I hope this helps you.

Enjoy the summer!!

Megumi

So, there you have it! MODERN CLUB!
