Corning Museum of Glass

The Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, New York is a beautiful modern building with an impressive collection of antique and new glass. Throughout the day they offer demos and short lectures on many glass topics, and even science-challenged people like me can learn fascinating things. If you have the chance to go, I recommend it.

The first 2 photos show a glass ball by Susan Plum from Brooklyn, NY that stands about 36" tall. The pitcher below was made around 400-450 BC! I had no idea they were blowing glass that long ago.

The teacup and saucer below is from France, made around 1850. Wowzers.

These glass slippers were made in 1925 for a production of Cinderella that was eventually cancelled.

The museum is within easy walking distance to the Rockwell Museum of Western Art and the quaint downtown area of restaurants and shops.

My friend is a big fan of glass and has been teaching me about it - that would make a great visit - pity it is so far away from us!

You're right it's a fantastic museum! I'm fortunate to have it right in my backyard...we get to visit frequently!

Cool! I love the tea cup, and what Cinderella would not love to have those glass slippers ;-)

I spent 9 weeks in Corning flying in on Monday and out on Thursday for work. Unfortunely I never had time to visit the museum. Since the office space we were working in was right on the main drag in town, I did my fair share of shopping at lunchtime. Downtown Corning is very quaint and I really enjoyed my time there. I stayed at the Radisson part of the time and then stayed in Elmyra the last four weeks. I remember there was a nice quilt shop in Horseheads which was between Corning and Elmyra. Yes I did spend a little bit of cash there.

I've been there! It was in the
60s and we were visiting friends of my folks in PA. We tripped to see the Grand Canyon of PA and the Glass Museum in Corning NY and Niagra Falls! WoW! I hadn't thought about that for years. Thanks for the memory!

I love the shop downstairs too.

How is the town doing? Last time I was there many shops were closed.
But the great Wegmans at the end of the street always has fresh food available :0).
