Anya Tyson's Dear Jane Quilt

This stunning batik Dear Jane quilt was made by Anya Tyson of Wellsboro, PA. It took her 4 years to make this 84" x 84" quilt. It's machine pieced, machine and hand appliqued, and machine quilted. I love this quilt viewed from a distance as a whole, and close up too. A masterpiece!

Lollypop Trees Quilt by Mary Beth LaRosa

This is one of my favorite quilts exhibited at the recent Flights and Fantasies Quilt Show at the New England Air Museum in Connecticut. It's called "Lollypop Trees" by Mary Beth LaRosa of Granby, CT. She used a pattern designed by Kim McLean. This 94" x 94" quilt was machine pieced, hand appliqued and hand quilted! She says she loved making this quilt, and that each block was a new art project to enjoy.

Sandy Hook Tribute Quilt

The Sandy Hook Tribute Quilt, named "Forget-Me-Not 12-14-12," was made by Don Beld and Bernice Foster. This 60" x 60" mourning quilt commemorates the tragic shooting in Newtown, CT. The pieced border block is called "Connecticut." 

Each of the 27 blue forget-me-not flowers represents a victim. There are also 27 blue leaves on the willow tree. The names and ages are written in the border. This quilt is modeled after mourning quilts and samplers popular in the 1800's.

Quilters Learn to Pilot a Cessna

Vintage Quilts from the Flights and Fantasies Show

Here are some of the vintage quilts that were on display at the Flights and Fantasies Quilt Show that was recently held at the New England Air Museum in Connecticut.

The quilt shown below was an overall pattern of pink and yellow tulips. So pretty.

Wedding Gift Quilt is Presented!

You've seen this quilt under construction in recent posts. Well here it is, being opened by my customer's sister at her wedding shower in Texas. She's reading the sweet label that her sister wrote. (I sent a blank label and a pen to my customer so she could write her message. Then she mailed it back to me to sew. A small label with my name and date is on the other end of the quilt.) The backing is a print by Denise Schmidt, although in these photos it looks like a solid.

It was so much fun making this special gift quilt!

Unstoppable the Movie

I just saw "Unstoppable" the movie by Kirk Cameron and Liberty University. The movie explores the question: Why does a loving God allow so much suffering? It will be playing a second time on Oct. 3, 8PM at select theaters. I recommend it for high school age viewers and older. Encouraging. Artistically done too. 

Karen Kebinger's Black and White Quilt

"Ebony and Ivory" by Karen Kebinger of New Britain, CT, on exhibit at the New England Air Museum Quilt Show last week. Karen made this quilt for a guild challenge. That sashing fabric really makes the quilt. Nice work!

Eleanor Potter's Selvage Quilt

This beautiful selvage quilt is the creation of Eleanor Potter of Torrington, CT. It's on exhibit at the Flights and Fantasies Quilt Show ending today at the New England Quilt Museum near Bradley Int'l Airport. She used some dark fabrics to enhance the woven appearance. And the cobalt blue is eye-catching. There's even a little rainbow in the upper left corner.

Eleanor gets a nice effect by including selvages that don't have any writing on them. I particularly like that chartreuse batik in the photo above.

Tina Craig's Selvage Quilt at the Air Museum Quilt Show!

This gorgeous selvage spider web quilt by Tina Craig of Rhode Island (Seaside-Stitches blog) is on exhibit at the Flights & Fantasies Quilt Show located at the New England Air Museum near Bradley Int'l Airport. The show runs through tomorrow (Sunday). This quilt attracted a lot of attention from viewers.

Btw, her son Pete is part of "a clandestine group of nearly superhuman special operatives" in the Marines. Handsome too. I'm just sayin'. 

Take a look at the binding: green on the front and dots on the back. Impressive!

The Stacks Quilt is Finished!

This Stacks quilt was custom made for a customer in Texas who will give it to her sister for a wedding gift. It will arrive 4 days before the bridal shower. I had a good time combing through my fabric stash for this quilt. I hope the recipients will enjoy it for many years.  It measures 61" wide x 76" long. 

Kuchi Patchwork Bedspread

This is a Kuchi bedspread from Pakistan (above). Some of the patches are 80-100 years old. It features hand embroidery and mirrors. See more at Fair Trade Quilts.

This is a vintage patchwork bedspread from India, also at Fair Trade Quilts. It's made from antique saris and wedding gowns. I love the colors.

Amazing Steampunk

Steampunk assemblages by Will Wagenaar (above). If the doll face is smiling, they're very cute. If not, then they're...not so cute. But still interesting! 

This doll teapot is also from Will Wagenaar of Reclaim2Fame. How does he think of these things!

Quilt Show Starts Monday at the New England Air Museum

The "Flights & Fantasies" Quilt Show will be held at the New England Air Museum from September 16-22. There will be more than 150 quilts including Dear Jane quilts, the Sandy Hook Tribute Quilt, and the miniature challenge "Flights & Fantasies."  Author Marie Bostwick and quilt historian Sue Riech will speak. The vendors will be there on Saturday and Sunday. This should be a great show. I can't wait.

I'll have three quilts in the show: "Fandango," "When This You See, Remember Me," and "Red Zinger."  

Josie Kate's Quilt

I've been thinking of making a quilt like this (white squares with colorful improv triangles). Then today I found this on Etsy! It was made by Josie Kate in California. I even have some of the same fabrics.

Zentangle

These zentangle images are from Google. See more here. Doesn't this look like fun? Designs like this would make nice quilt fabrics. I think it would be very relaxing to doodle like this. 

Bread Fabric!

I'm noticing carb fabrics lately. Yesterday the waffle fabric caught my eye, and today I found Rustic Loaves  from the Farmer's Market fabric line by RJR Fabrics. I wonder if it would still look like bread when used in small pieces. See this at eQuilter.
