On a recent trip to the Museum of Science in Boston, my husband and I saw this exhibit of butterflies. What an amazing variety of colors and shapes!
The iridescent blue butterfly has faceted scales that refract light, unlike others wich have pigmented scales. The blue one was about 3 inches tall, although it looks smaller on that huge leaf.
