Nellie Durand Makes Art Quilts Using Selvages!

Nellie Durand, an art quilter from Tennessee & Michigan made this stunning quilt called "Come With Me to the Kasbah" from blocks made for her by the Thursday Bee, members of the Smoky Mountain Quilt Guild in Knoxville, TN. The center block shown in the close up photo was made by Christine Copenhaver. What a beautiful job they did!
Nellie is also working on a "Lake" series which will have 100 quilts when she's done! She likes to use the selvages that have shaggy edges to add a nice touch to the water scenes.
Visit her blog, Nellie's Needles, to read about this quilt and see photos of it in progress. Also be sure to see the Lake series. Make a new cup of coffee now; this blog is fascinating.

Thank you for featuring my work. Selvages are some of the most interesting "orts" (British term for scraps) in the many bags of bits and pieces out of which I create my art.

Yes, Nellie is an endless river of creativity. Her work blows me away, the scope and range knows no limits. (she has a heart as endless as her creativity too)
