Center Diamond Quilt Shop in Cannon Beach, Oregon

Last week while on vacation in Cannon Beach, Oregon I visited the wonderful Center Diamond quilt shop several times. They have a huge selection of batiks, Asian designs, and black and whites. Plus lots more. Books and notions too. If you're in Oregon, this is a "must see" Say hi to Julie. See her blog for news updates.

This is the beach near the Center Diamond shop. This photo is from their site.

Selvage With Spiders

I'm home from vacation. We spent a week at beautiful Cannon Beach in Oregon and we had a great time. I'll show you some photos tomorrow. But first, some interesting selvages.

Look at this great selvage from Moda's Haunted Mansions by Sanae (above). Now that would look good in a selvage quilt. Especially in a spider web quilt or Riel Nieson's mummy quilt.

These charming little shoes aren't color windows, just a fancy selvage decoration. Selvages are getting better and better.

South Bronx Charity Quilts

My friend Victoria Findlay Wolfe (right) is looking for 700 finished quilts for a South Bronx project which will give quilts to formerly homeless families who are moving into transitional housing. She has 300 quilts already, and is planning to reach her goal by November! Read more  here: BumblebeansBasics. I'm going to make a quilt for this project. I'll show you when it's done.

Cape Cod Charm

My DH and I spent a few days in Privincetown (at the tippity-top of Cape Cod, MA) visiting with his brothers and their wives.

I've never seen a flower with fancy yellow stamens (?) like these. It's like a flower with flowers in it.
Aren't these beautiful? Such perfection in shape and color.
The photo below must have been taken at low tide. I'm glad to say I didn't see any green water. This is just the tip of the Cape (not the whole thing). We stayed on the water right in the middle of this photo. (Image from bing.com)

Isn't this a charming cottage? It's on the southern end of Commerical Street, the busy street in the center of town. It's representative of the architecture in the area.

Selvage Quilt Little by Little

Canadian quilter and fiction novel author Riel Nason (The Town that Drowned coming in October) is making another selvage quilt. But she's not making it all in one shot. Riel makes these 6" squares now and then, in between other projects. When she gets a big pile she'll make a quilt top. Her blog is "The Q and the U." Check out her recent" I Spy" quilt too.

Hospitality Selvage Quilt

This beautiful selvage quilt was made by Kay Evan (above), and exhibited in a trunk show at the Heber Valley Quilt Guild a while back. This is one big pineapple block, and it's easier than it looks. You can find the directions in my book "Quilts from the Selvage Edge." Nice job, Kay!

Junk Mail Selvage Quilt

This is my latest selvage quilt "Junk Mail." I used the new Envelope templates from Pat Yamin's Come Quilt With Me. She'll show this quilt to help promote her upcoming book Two Patch Scrap Quilts (published by AQS). The "all-selvage" blocks were made on muslin foundations. I really like the outer border on this quilt. It looks a little like a postage stamp edge.

I can't stand pickles, but I really like that pickle fabric above. Did you notice that Eileen's quilt has pickles too? (See recent post.) Often after a fabric shopping trip we share our bounty.

If I could tweak this quilt a little, I'd make that "a" in "mail" a little less like an "o," but that's about it. If you see Pat vending at a quilt show, stop and say hi. She has tons of templates and other goodies. Here's her new book:

Huge Variety of Needlepoint Pillow Kits

These are just two of the many needlepoint pillows available at Richard Rothstein Needlepoint Pillows in New Jersey. There are pages and pages of beautiful designs to view there: Williamsburg, nautical, geographic, butterflys, holiday, wildlife, lodge, oriental, birds, floral, aubusson, seasonal, silk, hooked...you get the idea. You might also find some quilt design inspiration among all this goodness!

Tomorrow I'll show you my latest selvage quilt called "Junk Mail."
