Selvage Bag from New Mexico

Daryl in New Mexico of the Patchouli Moon Studio blog just made this zippered selvage bag. It's as big as a tote bag and she plans to carry her knitting project in it. Since she'll carry it as a clutch, it doesn't have a handle. I think she just wants to hug her selvages and her knitting. Makes sense to me!

She says it hardly made a dent in her selvage supply. I see some selvages in there that Daryl won from the Selvage Blog! The row of green dots looks awesome, doesn't it? Great job!

Val's Bella Bag from the UK

Val Allen from Oxfordshire, UK has made another Mary Poppins travel bag. Even the things inside are made from selvages! And so much detail! Take a look at her fabulous Bella Bag's Blog. Didn't she do a great job?

Mary Poppins would be so lucky to have this bag. There's even room for her big umbrella!

Edda's Selvage Totes

Edda of Kalamazoo, MI made these stunning tote bags, her first two selvage projects. She says they are great conversation starters. Her friends are saving selvages for Edda now.

In the top photo, you can see one red selvage among all the light strips. Isn't that great? Then the basketweave-style bag has lots of color. Nice job, Edda!

Meet Barb from Houston

Barb Paliatsos of Houston, Texas made this colorful selvage bag for a "Green" challenge with her guild. Note the "Bag Lady" selvage at the top of the bag. I like the way the selvages make concentric diamonds too.

This is Barb's selvage stash of over 800 selvages! I think she's headed for a major selvage quilt!

Quilters who live in Houston are so lucky. Just drive downtown for the show. Easy as that. :)

Meet Janelle from Australia

Janelle from Ellenbrook, WA, Australia made this fantastic selvage bag. She decided to use selvages on one side only. The fabric she found for the other side is perfect! I like the pink polka dots on the selvage side. Nice!

Meet Jette from Denmark!

Jette Huneck is a quilter in Denmark. She's been quilting for 8 years, but these are her first selvage projects. I like how she featured black and white with just a light touch of color, even in the yoyo flowers. After making the tote, she made pot-holders with the left-overs. Great idea. Very nice, Jette!

Jill Bunis from New Jersey (Cre8fmomquilts) is the maker of the selvage cornices, the upholstered club chair, and more. Now she's whipped up a tote bag to bring to the quilt show in Lancaster, PA. JoAnne's Selvage Tote Bag

JoAnne in Keller, Texas made this beautiful blue selvage tote bag. I really like this one.

"I made this bag with blue and white polka dot lining and straps. It's for a friend who is much taller so maybe it won't drag the ground when she carries it. I'm planning to make another one for our guild's silent auction at the quilt show in April. These bags are large and will be great for keeping in the car for quick trips to the grocery. Be green - take your own bag and keep the plastic out of the landfill."

Kathy Wilcox Makes a Quilt Show Tote

Kathy Wilcox of Burnet, Texas has created this nice big tote bag! I'd call that Texas-size for sure. Here's what she had to say about it:

"Tomorrow I go to the Houston International Quilt Festival for 3 wonderful days of looking and shopping, so I made a big selvage tote bag to carry every day (20" wide x 18" long x 6" bottom). I stitched the selvages to muslin and then fused the muslin to fusible fleece to give the bag some body and then quilted it all. Lining is the black polka dot fabric like the straps. It should be a conversation starter in Houston."

Kathy, tell us how the show went. Was the tote big enough? ;)

This is Kathy's second project, she's finished her blue zinger top and is ready to quilt it! Stay tuned!

Darlene's Purple Selvage Tote

Darlene's made this purple tote bag using a bit of her selvage collection and a pattern from McCall's Quilting magazine. What a conversation-piece this will be at her next guild meeting. Good job, Darlene!

She says she's now hooked on making selvage items and is almost finished with a bed-sized purple zinger quilt! We'll keep you posted.

Selvage Tote for Lynne's Mom

Lynne in New England made this beautiful selvage tote bag as a birthday present for her Mom. They're both artists so you would expect this to be stunning...and it is! I love color gradation arrangements. She put some dark selvages in the middle so dirt won't show up on the bottom of the bag. Pretty smart idea. See the handles below.

Make Yourself a Selvage Tote Bag

Are you considering your next (or first) selvage project? How about a OOAK (one-of-a-kind) selvage tote bag. Won't that be fun to bring to guild meetings in the fall? And it's a nice souvenir of your quilting projects. Add buttons or patches or charms or beaded fringe or knotted selvage fringe! I just made that last one up as I started brain-storming. Debra's Selvage Bags

Debra Posthumus of Terre Haute, Indiana has been thinking about selvages for a while. She finally harvested the selvages from her stash and made this large tote bag and three small zippered selvage bags (one is for her daughter).

Note the selvage covered button in the top photo, and the embroidered chick on the little bag at the bottom of the last photo (on the blue patch). Nice touches! I like how she pieced the bag, using selvages just at the top. Nice work, Debra!

Meet Veronica Santos of Spain!

Veronica Santos of Spain was inspired by a spider web quilt that she saw on http://www.quiltville.com/ so she made a beautiful one for herself. That's how quilters are, no matter what corner of the world we live in! We hear you, Veronica! And what a beautiful quilt it is!

Machine Embroidered Selvage Bag!

Fiesta Girl in Florida was inspired by Jean's recent selvage tote bag. But then she added tons of machine quilting and machine embroidery! I would have thought that a selvage bag would be too thick to machine embroider so nicely...but she did it! She plans to use this bag to bring her toiletries to the beach.
