Another Finish: Diamond Dish Quilt

You've seen the pattern for Diamond Dish. Now the quilt is finally finished, as a result of my "getting serious" about completing quilt tops. 

 If you are a new quilter, you might be interested to see what a "hanging sleeve" is. (Above) It goes on to the top edge of the quilt before the binding is added. The sleeve puffs out a little so that the quilt hangs nice and flat when the curtain rod (or dowel) is in there. Otherwise you'd see a bulge. I always show a photo like this so Etsy viewers can see how easy it is to hang a quilt on the wall.

Fast Needle Exercise

These random orange wedges on my design wall might become a quilt. I don't know. This is mainly a cool-down exercise after sewing all those 1.5" strips together for the last quilt (see below). It was fun making that quilt, but now I have to "shake it out." Haha. I like how the Jennifer Paganelli "orange and white tiger stripe" fabric looks here. I have so much fun with that fabric. I got a yard of it on Etsy so I linked to the listing for you just in case you're interested.

Orange Quilts Plus a Free Tutorial

This photo was featured on the Hirshfield's Color Club blog. Hirshfield's is a paint and home decorating store in the Midwest USA. I like this simple but bold orange log cabin quilt (above). 

Leah at  the Green Bee blog recently made this orange flying geese quilt (above). She says her favorite part of the process is hand-sewing the binding on the back of the quilt. I don't hear that very often.

What a modern color combination: orange and gray. Very pretty.

Today on My Design Wall

This is my latest quilt top "Diamond Dishes." It's the first time I've used bright orange since the 1960s, I think! I like it with the retro fabrics, and the yellow inner border calms the orange down a bit. 

I think I'll make a pattern for this while I still remember how to make it. 

It has Y-seams, but it's not too tricky. This quilt measures 45" x 58." No foundations.
