I've been on the lookout for interesting items to make into pincushions. This one came from the Elephant's Trunk Flea Market in New Milford, CT. The inscription on the bottom of this piece seems to say "Rose," and "Germany." It doesn't feel smooth like glass; it's more flat-finished and a little grainy. Maybe it's ceramic. It appears to be old. I'll show you when this becomes a pincushion.
Any suggestions for what color silk I should use for the pincushion? Pink? Wheat?

Your little girl may be Parian - see info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parian_Ware
Parian was popular for dolls and figurines. Whatever she is made of, she's adorable!
I think pink would be nice.
This is going to be a wonderful pincushion...make sure you don't have a 'treasure there though!!! The markings on the bottom look like manufacturing symbols so like Angie said, check out the Parian. As for color, first I thought a pretty light green, then I nixed that because it would be too close to the green in her skirt, then I thought pink would be really nice, until I noticed that little touch of yellow on her sleeves. If your like yellow and could find one to match the sleeves, that would pull things together very nicely...well, those are just my thoughts, not a statement of fact, LOL. It will be really beautiful no matter what color you use. Can't wait to see it finished. Hugs...
Pink or green to match the girls dress colors would be pretty. Can't wait to see it finished.
Lovely little girl. Can't wait to see what it looks like as a pin cushion. I think pink would be pretty, although a wheat color would not distract from her as much.
oh thanks alot, something else for me to start collecting (just kidding) I have have a thing for small bowls that I drop my pins in, now I think I need to add cushions to them- lol
Silk would be pretty in pink... but how about pink Fairy Frost fabric?
Definitely pink!
What a great find, it is going to make a stunning pincushion.
