Rocks in Pin Cushions

No, this isn't some kind of "keep your eye on the rock" trick. Haha. I'm making pin cushions with little Nantucket baskets and they needed some weight. So here's my solution: rocks wrapped in cotton batting strips (so they don't jiggle around like there's some kind of a rock in there). This will be glued to the bottom, then the squishy business part of the pin cushion will be sewn or glued to that. I'll show you how they come out. Cute baskets, don't you think?

I am looking forward to seeing your newest pincushion creations! I have a Christmas ornament made from one of those baskets. I bought it in Nantucket!

cute cute cute!

i used to weave baskets (not this type) and my spoke weights were little "pillows" made from denim and filled with fine Lake Michigan beach gravel.

they weighed down the wet spokes while getting a basket base started.

anyway, i also use them for pincushions. so ... rock on !!!

Loved yesterday's pincushion and these will be sweet also. Nantucket baskets are loved by every New Englander! I've done selvage pincushions but haven't gotten as creative as you, Karen.

What a cute idea, using baskets. I've used large, heavy metal washers as weights in my pin cushions. Rocks are certainly cheaper!
