OOAK Vintage Pincushion

Definitely One-of-a-Kind! This Connecticut antique market find has been transformed (by me) into a pincushion. (From what? I don't know, maybe a vase?)

When my 26-yo son and I saw this at the Elephant's Trunk in New Milford, he said "Sick!" and I said "Perfect!" I like this fancy little Renaissance guy. The piece is unglazed bisque, and the cushion is pink silk dupioni. Pinsies included. See this pincushion.

Here's another favorite find turned into a pincushion: the Hand & Purse. (Sold.)

Robin Halleck's New Upcycle Quilt

Robin Halleck of Northern Michigan just made this beautiful Upcycle quilt for her granddaughter Lydia.  It will be presented to the little 2 1/2 year old this Thanksgiving.

Her fabrics look great on the blue background, don't you think? And I love the swirly quilting with multicolored thread. She says she had a blast making this quilt. Nice job, Robin!

See the pattern here: Upcycle Quilt Pattern.

Selvage Mini Quilt

This colorful mini selvage quilt was made by Missyecaj/Jacey Craft, and posted on flickr
This would make a lovely doll quilt. The dense quilting is just right.

Fabulous Selvage Bookshelf Quilt

I found this selvage bookcase quilt on Pinterest. I tried to find out who made it, but to no avail. If you know, please tell me.

This quilt is hanging on a black curtain, probably at a quilt show. The outer edge of the quilt is brown. You can see a bit of the sign on the right. What a great job this quilter did with all those narrow selvages!

Gilma Simeone's Red Zinger Quilt

Gilma Simeone's beautiful Red Zinger selvage quilt won a Judge's Choice ribbon at the Evening Star Quilters quilt show. Gilma lives in New York. Sharing the moment with Gilma is her niece Sarah.
Wonderful job!!

Veterans Who are Quilters

I've been meeting the nicest group of people since Veteran's Day when I offered free patterns to vets. This is a photo of Melissa Young taken when she was 19 years old. At the time she was at Photography A School in the Navy at Fort Meade, Maryland. Now her artistic endeavors include quilting!
Vets, we appreciate you!

Teacup Selvage

This is "Penelope Tea Cups" by Holly Holden for Lake House. I like those teacup color windows.

***
Do any of you have a project in the works that could benefit from this selvage? It's about 18" long.
Leave me a comment and I'll mail it to the first person who steps forward (in the Comments).

Interesting Hair

"So there's this girl from my class..."
That's the caption that's going around the Internet with this photo.
Very creative!

Little Boy's Gets His Wish

Take a look at this heartwarming video. The Make-a-Wish Foundation granted this little boy's wish to be Batman's assistant: Bat Kid, and the people of San Francisco helped make it a big success. The boy's cancer is in remission too. It was time for some good news, don't you think?

Selvage Christmas Tree Tutorial

Here's a tutorial for a selvage Christmas tree wall quilt from Cindy at Live a Colorful Life. There was a giveaway as part of that post, but that was from last year unfortunately. The little star at the top is a button.
This quilt has Christmas-themed selvages. Beautiful!

Scrap Quilt Obsession

I saw this on the Live a Colorful Life blog and I thought "that's me!"
Scrap quilts with triangles are still on my brain and on my design wall.

Stay tuned for the next finished quilt, coming soon.

Painting by Elaine Cory in Nevada

This beautiful painting is the work of Elaine Cory in Nevada. She has it listed in her Etsy store: Elaine's Heartsong. She wakes up every morning filled with ideas for new paintings. I love the colors in this one.
Nice work, Elaine!

Boutis! Fabulous Stuffed Quilts

Boutis refers to wholecloth quilts made using a stuffing technique from the South of France. Isn't it beautiful?
These photos are from the Boutis Florida Suncoast - Heather blog.

Do you want to go to France and enjoy the scenery right now, free, and don't have to pack? Click here.

I love this quilt. I was introduced to boutis by my friend Barbara Harrison when I lived in Pennsylvania. I miss you Barbara!

Quilter Needs Info about Quilt-as-You-Go

Gloria in Oregon is about to make a Red Zinger. She wants to know if it would be a good idea to use a "Quilt-as-You-Go" method. I've never done that. Does anyone have any advice for Gloria? Let's chat in the Comments to this post. Thanks!

Are you wondering what I'm talking about? See Red Zinger here. We love newbies.

The Scraps are Flying!

The second quilt in the triangle scrap series is almost finished. Here's a little sneak peek! You'll never guess this one, it's very different from my previous quilts. Stay tuned!

Take a look at the PINNING in this photo. I don't know why it took me so long to think of doing it this way. I used to hit the pins with the needle now and then. That can really mess up your sewing machine.

See the previous post about pinning and all the good comments there. Okay, back to the sewing machine.

Tea Basket Quilt is Finished!

"Tea Basket" is the first in a series of scrap quilts made by sewing triangles by eye.
This is the kind of side-project that you can work on now and then as the scraps are accumulated. Or, you can cut little triangles off of everything you have and make tons of these little pretties! Like I did.
The quilt measures 62" x 82."

The lovely machine quilting was done by Maika Christensen of Utah. You can email her at maika@familypieces.com. I recommend her highly.

Yes, I made a pattern for this quilt: Tea Basket.

Cute Costume

My sister Eileen sent me this photo. I know it has a high "eww!" factor, but at the same time, it's cute too.

Happy November!

This lovely autumn quilt was  made by Lola DeLongoria, Carol Tackett, Marilyn Limbaugh, and quilted by Sharon Malachowski.  It was raffled to benefit Gualala Arts in Gualala, California in 2008. This quilt measures 85" x 110." I love the color combination, just like the colors in my yard (mostly on the ground today). Nice job, ladies!

Here are the quilters while the quilt was in the works (background). It looks like they had a good time.
