This antique patriotic Tree of Life quilt was made around 1835, possibly in West Virginia. It measures 64" x 82." The red triangles are 1 3/8" on the long side. It's covered with dense hand-quilting. This quilt is offered for sale at Rocky Mountain Quilts in Maine (she used to live in the Rockies) for $4,400. Wouldn't that price astonish the maker of this quilt!

it certainly would! I've been taking a class for machine quilting and thinking about all the tools we modern time quilters use ... how in the heck did they make quilts then? I have a few that were made by my Great-Grandmother and every piece is hand stitched! One is really quite a large quilt and really lovely with women in hats ... love that I have it!
