Which of the following quilt challenge ideas do you think would be the most fun?
- "Gee's Bend Look-Alike" Make a quilt that could pass for a Gee's Bend quilt.
- "If You Were a Quilt, What Would You Look Like?" Would all your points match, or would you have lots of embellishments? It's something to think about.
- "Modern Broderie Perse" Cut out images from printed fabric and applique them onto your quilt. (Any kind of applique.)
- "Quilts You Can Read" Put words on your quilt: pieced, applique, embroidered, printed on the fabric, written with pen, baby bracelet beads, whatever you want. Choose one word, or write out a quote, a message, names, places, lyrics, thoughts, anything.
- "Make Your Own Antique" Using whatever techniques you like, make a quilt that looks like an antique. We're not trying to fool anybody, just having fun.
- "Quits From the Future" Imagine what quilts will look like in 2060, then make one.
- "Self-Portrait" A playful version of yourself done in fabric, fibers, etc. Just 12" square.
- None of the above. Keep thinking. (It's okay to say this. You can still win a prize.)
Leave a comment telling which idea(s) you like best, or none of the above.
On Friday I'll pick 2 winners at random who will receive a charm pack or a package of selvages, whichever you prefer. Just a little thank you for your help.
11:38PM - Winners were just chosen. Thanks so much.

I think I like the second idea most. very cool ideas though.
I like number 4. Two of my favorite things together!
I love the idea of 'quilts you can read'. Maybe that's because I love to read every word I encouter during a day, and I think it would be really fun to see quilts that make you look again and again, to see what it's saying. Besides I think you can really variate with that theme and people can bring their own message along with the quilt. Great idea!
I'm tempted to say none of the above! But if I had to choose without that option it would be #2!
I like #4 or #5.
I would have to pick 3 or 4. I love words but also think there are a world of possibilities for 3. Interested to see what people choose.
I would have to go for #5
Just appeals most!

My picks would be number 2 and 4. I immediately started thinking about whether my "points" would match, the colours I would be, and shape etc etc - wonderfully inspiring idea. Number 4 appeals because I love calligraphy and reading, and I think you would get some amazing results from using words in a quilt...
just keep thinking...it seems that most of the suggestions have already been used over and over ( maybe not the broderie perse...but i do not like a whole lot applique....:-)!!! ) so just keep thinking...
Love from Italy , Roberta
I love the second idea! it is funny and creative.
Number 2 is really cool, I'd go for that!
Proposition nb 2 is my favorite: a quilt with different technics, maybe not perfect but charming.
Love from France
of course no 5 would be my safe choice but a challenge...would have to chose 3, 4 and 7
no 4 though how about a quilt inspired by a quote, or a saying?
Kathie
I love #4 "quilts you can read" I am always trying to find ways to say things with my quilts and I will have to try this idea very soon.
Great idea, Karen! Love #4, you could use selvages!!!
I really like the idea of number 2!! If I were a quilt I would want to be bright and vibrant and make people smile!! Hmmmm, me as a quilt, yes I like that one....

You have some great ideas there, but I particularly like no 7 - Self Portrait as I already have a plan to make one, one day!
I like number 2 most - it would be interesting to see the result ;o)
I'd pick #1 ~ the Gee's Bend look-alike. These quilts seem to be the "in" thing, so if I made one, I'd be a pretty classy quilter!
I think a Gee's Bend challenge would be fun. It's one that I haven't heard of before. Quilts You Can Read would be my second pick.
Too many great choices-I think I like #2 the best closely followed by #4.
my vote is for #2 "if you were a quilt..."
I am currently in love with quilts with words, so I vote for Quilts You Can Read.
Great ideas - I've even done a couple of these challenges.
I vote #2 as it is original to me.
sounds like fun!
I love broderie perse -- that would be my choice. :D
#8 I actually don't like any of them! Would be nice if I can offer an alternative, right? Can't think of anything without knowing more of what's behind what your aiming for. How about a selvage challenge, LOL!
#1 and #4 sound super, Gee's Bend re-do and words! I would join either of those quilt challenges, no matter how busy I was with other projects!
I love this idea...."If You Were a Quilt, What Would You Look Like?" Would all your points match, or would you have lots of embellishments? It's something to think about.
I like the first idea. Love the Gee's Bend quilts. So funky and don't follow the rules.
Number 4 appeals to me, something I 've never thought about trying.
Okay, so I like #2 and then # 5. But really these are all terrific ideas!! How much fun!
I vote for "Quilt from the future", because it is the most creative and challenging title!
I have NO IDEA of what I would make, though!
Karen, #2 definitely. For some of us we could incorporate the whole 'antique' thing.
I love the Gee's Bend idea too, but all the others are very clever as well. Can't we do them all?!
number 4 is something I have always wanted to do.
I would go for #2. It would be interesting to see different personalities come through quilts.
Make Your Own Antique, that is my favorite idea.
I like number 2.
Definitely number two!
I would love to design my own quilt without using a designer pattern
I love the idea of quilts you can read. That might make a nice toddler quilt with easy words for a beginner reader. Or I am sure you could think of a ton of good uses for this.
Those are all great ideas! I really love the "if you were a quilt what would you look like?" one though... And the "quilts you can read"... I'm feeling rather inspired!
I have had an idea in my head for a long time of "a quilt to read", so I like that one....
Would be fun to see antique quilts made over also...
Make your own antique would be fun for me. I've been making copies of Amish type antique quilts for years.Just got a copy of Amish Abstractions and I'm itching to get stitching.
My second choice would be Modern Broderie Perse
I like the idea of Modern Broderie Perse! Honestly, I've never thought this deeply about quilt ideas. I usually just look for traditional patterns. Thanks for getting me to think out of the box!
I like #3, the Modern Broderie Perse! I could be biased because I love applique!
I would prefer idea #4 and #5. The idea of a quilt to read facinates me, and I could use my selvages words in it. And I love antique quilts so this would be a joy to work on one.
I like the first idea most !
I think I would do #5 if I would be doing it. All are really neat ideas. How about one of each.LOL
Having seen the Gees Bend quilt traveling exhibition, it would be hard for most to imitate the life history sewn into those quilts. They are very moving. But I do like the idea of a combination of 2and 4 "what would I look like as a quilt" embellished with words, phrases, journaling, bead work etc, anything that's part of you. Cyndi
I like #2. If it's for a guild, it would be fun for members to see if they can guess who made each quilt.
quilts you can read!!!!!! Yours is the first blog I read every day. So much fun....thank you!
Quilts you can read. That would be a lot of fun.
If you were a quilt block what would you look like. I think that a whole quilt would be too much, but you could do a block for each person in your family/quilt bee/ social circle etc. of course any technique would work.
Number 6
It would be fun to see what we think the future holds. Hmmmm
I pick "Quilts You Can Read", maybe using words from selvages like those from one of your recent posts, Aby Quilt, I think.
#1, #2 or #3--that doesn't narrow it down much, does it? A Gee's Bend interpretation would be challenging even though the quilts look simple-and fun for traditional or contemporary quilters.
Broderie Perse could be traditional or contemporary in feeling and in technique.
Making a quilt that looks like me-I'd have to make at least 3 quilts! ( applique or liberated patchwork or miniature quilt). All intriquing ideas, Karen.
Kathleen in CT
p.s. I've won a giveaway so please choose another quilter.
Definitely #2! The design and color options are endless. I know mine would be bright colors and very organized!
i love 30's fabrics so i would go for the antique quilts. there's something so comforting about 'old school' -- tried and true. that's for me!
rita
I like #2 the best. I imagine the variety of quilts would be wonderful.
Great question.....I think I would have to choose #2, but #4 would also be a fun project.
Karen, what a fun question! I would go with #2, but also like None of the Above just to hear whatever ideas are out there!
I vote for no. 4 or no. 7.
Thanks for asking us to participate!
While I like the all of the ideas, I like the quilts "from the future" idea the best! 2060 is only 50 years away, but who knows what our quilts will look like by then. It would be fun to see what everyone imagines they would look like. Great idea!
Gee's Bend! For Sure...
I love the idea of "if you were a quilt"...this would generate some really interesting and creative finished quilts...but I also really like the Faux Antique challenge too!
I'm torn between the "If you were a quilt..." and "quilts you can read", but I think the "if you were a quilt" would be the most fun!
I like #7!
Quilts you can read would be great fun!
Number two for me , if I were a quilt I would want to be a beautiful landscape ,hand appliqued with some wonderful embellishments like embroidered flowers , yeah that would be perfect for me ;-)
I'm a number 4 kinda gal, but #1 is a close second!!
No. 4. Definitely No. 4 and definitely free pieced letters. They are the best!
I am drawn to number 7...self portrait. I think that would be fun and in only 12 inches it would be extra fun!
Hugs
I love all your ideas but my favorite is " If I were a quilt "
Have a great day.
#4
7. self portrait! and it would not be too flattering!!! ;-)
I like the number two the best, I also like the idea of reading in a quilt. good luck with all of the comments.
well, now that I think about it, 4 and 7 are kinda the same in my mind!
I vote for #3 - Modern Broderie Perse - mainly because I already have this awesome koi fabric to make one based on a magazine pattern.
My vote would be for either 'If you were a Quilt, What would you look like', or 'Quilts you can read'. - I probably chose those two because they are two I would be comfortable giving a try!
All wonderful ideas, but I like #2 best. Makes me stop and what I tell the world about myself in each quilt I create.
i like the modern broderie perse....have been looking at some of the Kaffe Fassett and Amy Butler fabrics and considering how to use for broderie perse.
Oh my these are all great ideas but the stand out for me is the
"Quilts you can Read"....I know I would have a blast with that one.....and ya know some selvages have words so maybe...........
That Broderie perse sounds interesting. I'd love to see what people come up with!
I would definitly have to say number 2 as I can picture it right now in my mind...Now if I could only get those mishaps blocks back from the trash! Ellen
"If You Were a Quilt, What Would You Look Like?"
What a fun idea-I'd choose that one.
Linda
Gees bend, for sure, they're so artful and yet so NOW!!! Planning one already, and it it would be out of my box for sure!!! LOL
I like the forth idea.
Un saludo.Alicia.
I love IF YOU WERE A QUILT WHAT WOULD YOU LOOK LIKE. I could picture the quilt I would make instantly. Funky, no rules, colorful. In fact, I think I will!!!
Thanks for the idea! Judy Sebastian
I like "if you were a quilt what would you look like" and of course I'm curious what this poll is for.
I'm a writer. I like words. So the only challenge that would suit me to a T is a word quilt.
I Love the idea of Number 4 Can have a lot of fun with word play.! I also like some of the other idea's too.!
I'll have to go with #8
Bet you just love Comments like me because none of the suggested theme 'grab' me and I don't have any constructive ideas for one.
:^{
Hugs,
Gerry
Okay, today is Friday...even if I'm not in time for the drawing, I would like to let you know that making a Gee's Bend look-a-like quilt would be very cool! Also making an "Make your own Antique" is also a pretty neat thing to do. All of these were good ideas. Maybe you should do one a month...get it all done! lol...
hugz, Pam
My favorite idea is to make an antique look-alike quilt.
I am so in love with Gee's Bend quilts and I want to make one, so if that was the challenge, it would make me get off my behind and do it! Love your blog!
Self Portrait is a cool idea.
I think my fav is number 2!
I love #4 idea. Words on quilts, memories, life's happenings are all part of our rich history and need to be shared with others, and as some quilts are still around for 100years, just thinks of the great 'read' a word quilt would be to the finder/owner.
I would have to say, "none of the above". I like to use bright colors in many different ways so none of your choices quite fits.
The Gee's Bend quilts appeal to me as those women had so very little to use and yet made quilts of their own unique personality and charm. Would love to try to replicate one...or two.
Great ideas - and my favorite one is 6 futuristic quilt. Let's stretch our imagination and the future will be here soon anyways.
Very hard choices! I think a self portrait would be the one I'd try; possibly the futuristic one. I like these ideas where we are not hemmed in by convention!
They are all interesting but I would go with #2. It would definetley be a challenge! Sharonj.
I like ideas 1, 4 and 5....and now I am curious....are we going to see some of these played out? Kristy in Ohio
I would love to do a Gee's Bend quilt look alike. They are so inspiring.
ooh.. I like 2... and 7... but.... 2!
I vote for 2, 4, and 5.
I'm most definitely the antique sorta gal!
I don't know that I am voting but #3 gave me an idea, I have a stash of strange materials that might just need a little cutting and raw edge applique to make them get off the shelf and onto a top.
I like #2. I love quilts and think I make beautiful ones but since I think I look rather plain, just curious what fabrics, pattern, embellishments to use. In fact, this may be something I do just to see. Thanks for the idea.
galew417@comast.net
I like the Gees Bend quilts the best and then the one with words next.
I'd like to vote for Quilts You Can Read.
Megan
I love the Gee Bend idea - that would be fabulous!
8 for me, none of the others strike my fancy.
I like the Gees Bend idea (maybe because I've got a bunch of weird yardage that would be just perfect for a project like that!) and Quilts You Can Read.
# 2 If I were a quilt I would be full of color (of course) spring shades most likely. I would be high contrast and asymmetrical.
Number two hands down!!!
I'd be up for any one of the challenges on the list. Maybe the question should be which one would you like to try first ;-)
"If You Were a Quilt..."
Number 2 is a winner!
