Here's my red and white sampler quilt.

Here's a sampler quilt that I made about 5 years ago. I was showing it at the first meeting of the Connecticut Mod Quilter's Guild recently and Jackie (of Canton Valley Quiltworks) took this photo. On my screen the red looks pretty dark, but it's red and white, including a little red toile. This quilt started when I learned how to make fast and easy half square triangles. I made a batch of them and thought this big tree would be fun. Next came the improvisational fan for the roots. The tree had to be set on point, so next came the applique triangles to make a square center medallion. The dots in the lower right are buttons. I call this kind of quilt a random sampler. Never a dull moment making one of these, and it's one of my favorites. Do you have a red and white quilt in the works, or on the horizon?

Your red and white quilt looks terrific. I am planning yet another hexagon quilt in red and white and it will be a copy of the antique quilt that Barbara Chainey showed on her blog. I just fell in love with it. The red may be somewhat more pinky/red to make it my own.

It is so FAB-U-LOUS. And just making it up/adding as you go along is the way to go. I'm actually making a red and white (and pink) selvage quilt right now -- making it up as I go and I'm almost done.

What a marvelous sampler and all in red and white. It is so wonderful. I love using precision pieceing and improvisation in the same quilt. Bonnie

Karen this is a beautiful quilt. I saw your quilt posted on Jackie's blog. I have been collecting red and white fabrics for a while now. Guess I better pick out a pattern :-)

Oh my - this is wonderful!!! Love the tree - very imaginative root system. Something about 1/2 square triangles and applique together always makes me smile!

Love this. And I enjoyed your "organic" way of building each element as you went along. Great quilt!

Wow! Thank you for showing it to us. That's beautiful! And you call this a "sampler"?

I've made a red and white quilt, most of my quilts are made for charity so I don't have it. You have inspired me to make another red and white one this year and maybe I'll keep it!

What a great quilt! You are going to seem like a visionary for doing this 5 years ago. I think everyone is going to be doing a red and white quilt now, and the quilt historians are going to mark this as the beginning of an era.

I have one little quilt basted and a few more on the brain!

That is a gorgeous quilt. I have not made a red and white one, but seeing all of them, has tempted me. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Easter.

Oh lovely! Hooray for you to have the Conn mod quilters! Bummer for us. Now it will be harder to convince you to come to the Metro mod guild. :)

I definitely have a red and white quilt on the horizon--after the Infinite Variety show back in March, it has really had my gears going!
