World's Most Beautiful Selvage (Chair)?

Okay, take a look at this chair (from the Pottery Barn website), and think.....

Isn't this beautiful? I'm thinking about covering an upholstered chair with selvages. I know it's nuts, but wouldn't that be so cool? Tell me what you think. I would cover some foundation pieces, then have an upholsterer cover the chair with them.

Elena McDowell sent me this selvage photo. Do you think she would send me this selvage to put front and center on my chair? I haven't asked her; do you think I should? We have to establish some accepted ethics in this new frontier of qilting. :)

Karen, I would send you every selvage I own (really big box!!) if you would cover that chair--how cool would that be?! But you might have to let the chair come and live with me for part of the year...Go for it!

maybe this is the place to use the selvages from home dec fabric,so its a big sturdier. I've got some of those to send you.

Think twice about the fabric: patchworkfabric is not that sturdy. But the idea is fantastic and you could forbid everybody (cat inclusive) to sit in that chair :o)
Or use selvages from upholstery fabric.

Quilters will be coming from miles away just to curl up in that chair with a pile of quilty books and magazines and drift off with images of selvage projects dancing in their heads.

Yes, that chair (or any one, really) needs to be covered in decorator fabric selvages! Of course the quilter in me wants to make sure it is nicely quilted, too.! LOL

Go for it!

YES, definitely. That chair is awesome but it needs COLOR and lots of it. Selvage edges would do it big!

That would be so cool. Go for it.

I just recovered an armchair and it was a JOB and a half just using regular fabric. It would be many many times more work redoing it with selvages. Whether selvages would hold up to the wear and tear a chair would get, I don't know but it would be a treat to look at, that's for sure. Good luck. Linda

I love the dots of color on the selvages.

That would be so awesome and it's a great idea! The only suggestion I would have is to find a chair at a salvage shop to start with.

I've left an "award" for you on my books blog tonight (feel free to ignore if you don't like the chain letter nature of these things, but I thought we all like more visitors to our blogs, so I put your fun site on the list).
