Springtime in Rhode Island

Yesterday my DH, DS and I went to Newport, Rhode Island to enjoy springtime. It was beautiful but cold and windy by the ocean. These photos were taken at Blithewold Mansion, Gardens and Arboretum

Then we had a delicious seafood dinner at the Mooring in Newport (photo below is from their website). I had the swordfish which was wonderful. We arrived early for dinner and it was nice and quiet. By the time we left it had filled up and was pretty noisy, so I recommend off-hours if you like quiet.

Just one more photo: Marble House, below. Isn't it a classic? I think this should be the location for our Selvage Blog Summer Retreat. :)

It is hard not to love the area, it is the life style of the rich and famous :0). Looks like you had a great day.

Happy Spring

I haven't been to Newport in years, always too crowded. Would like to go over before summer though and just enjoy a ride around.

My only visit to Newport was a warm autumn day where I met an Australian friend whose cruise ship had stopped for the day. WE had had lunch at the Mooring -- outdoor, maybe at the table in the photo. I imagine it was took chilly in the wind for outdoor dining yesterday. You brought back a good memory of exploring the town with someone who was more enchanted than I was. We had a lovely drive by the sea, explored some downtown streets and didn't see a single kangaroo.

Beautiful! I've always wanted to go to Blithewold for daffodil days. We were just talking about it last week when we were in Bristol, but didn't have time to stop.

Love Blithewold, it is such a beautiful building and the grounds are just wonderful at most anytime of the year. I love the bamboo forest- not something that you would expect in little ol' Rhode Island. When my children were small we would take a ride there and walk down by the waters edge on a sunny day. Always a good memory.
